LB Team MMRF

How did you get involved with the MMRF?

I’ve always been passionate about supporting critical medical research and helping those affected by cancer. When I learned about the incredible work the MMRF does to accelerate research and find a cure for multiple myeloma, I knew I wanted to be a part of this mission. Joining the MMRF team as a staff member managing fundraising events has been an incredibly rewarding experience.

What do you want people to know about multiple myeloma?

I want to share that multiple myeloma is a complex and challenging blood cancer that affects plasma cells in the bone marrow, but there is a lot of hope for patients. Thanks to the efforts of the MMRF and the support of our donors, we are making significant strides in research and treatment options. Raising awareness about this disease is crucial to finding a cure and supporting patients and their families.

Why is participating in the MMRF Road to Victories ride important to you?

Participating in the MMRF Road to Victories ride is important to me because it provides an opportunity to actively contribute to the fight against multiple myeloma and connect with patients, researchers, and the myeloma community. By riding and fundraising, I can help raise awareness and funds for the critical research needed to find a cure. It’s a way to honor those affected by this disease and to show my commitment to the MMRF’s mission.

What are you looking most forward to/excited about the ride?

I’m most excited about the sense of community and camaraderie that comes with the ride. It’s inspiring to see so many people come together with a shared goal of making a difference. I’m also looking forward to the physical challenge and the beautiful scenery we’ll encounter along the way!

What does your training regimen for this event look like?

My training regimen includes a mix of cycling, strength training, and endurance workouts, as I’m currently training for our MM4MM Greenland and Kilimanjaro treks, and the Chicago Marathon this fall. I regularly incorporate strength training exercises to improve my overall fitness and reduce the risk of injury since I’m completing a variety of events. Consistency and having fun along the way are key components of my training plan.

Describe any challenges you have needed to overcome to be able to participate in this event

One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is balancing training with my work responsibilities and personal life. It requires careful time management and discipline to ensure I’m adequately prepared for the ride while fulfilling my duties as an MMRF staff member. Staying motivated and pushing through tough training sessions can also be challenging, but the cause and the support from the community keep me going and inspire me to keep pedaling.

Who/what inspires you?

I’m inspired by the resilience and determination of multiple myeloma patients and their families. Their strength in the face of adversity is truly remarkable and motivates me to work harder and do everything I can to support the MMRF’s mission.

Have you participated in previous MMRF events? If so, which/when?

Yes! I’ve attended MMRF Walk/Runs in New York City, Philadelphia, and Charlotte, completed the NYC Half and Chicago Marathon with Team for Cures, and joined the MM4MM team in Kilimanjaro in 2023.

Anything additional to add?

I’d like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all our supporters, donors, and participants. Your contributions and dedication are pushing us forward in the fight against multiple myeloma. Together, we are bringing hope to patients and their families and moving closer to a cure. Thank you for being part of this incredible journey!
