John “Jeff” Padlick Patient Family

How did you get involved with the MMRF?

I got involved with the MMRF because my mother-in-law has multiple myeloma. My wife, Kathy, is a registered nurse who explained the disease to me and informed me that the multiple myeloma research foundation has made great strides in finding a cure.

What do you want people to know about multiple myeloma?

Anyone can get multiple myeloma; however, it’s a cancer that is also a very treatable disease if it’s found early. I know this because my mother-in-law was diagnosed with multiple myeloma 7 years ago and is still getting treatment and responding well!

Why is participating in the MMRF Road to Victories ride important to you?

Participation in this event is important to me because I want to help find a cure. I feel that finding a cure for cancer is right around the corner, and the more effort that is put into finding a cure for the disease, the greater the chances to quickly find a cure.

What are you looking most forward to/excited about in regard to the ride?

I’m looking forward to meeting people with the same ambition to ride bicycles cross country. I’m also looking forward to the camaraderie of like-minded people seeking a cure for cancer!

What does your training regimen for this event look like?

I live in the Finger Lakes, and my training includes riding around Conesus Lake and in that area four times per week. The lake terrain has many hills and is very challenging!

Who/what inspires you?

Riding my bike inspires me to challenge myself while taking the opportunity to take in all the beautiful sites that nature and life have to offer.

Have you participated in previous MMRF events? If so, which/when?

I have participated in many other fundraising events with different organizations, but none for the MMRF until now.

The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) is the largest nonprofit in the world solely focused on accelerating a cure for each and every multiple myeloma patient. We drive the development and delivery of next-generation therapies, leverage data to identify optimal and more personalized treatment approaches, and empower myeloma patients and the broader community with information and resources to extend their lives. Central to our mission is our commitment to advancing health equity so that all myeloma patients can benefit from the scientific and clinical advances we pursue. Since our inception, the MMRF has committed over $500 million for research, opened nearly 100 clinical trials, and helped bring 15+ FDA-approved therapies to market, which have tripled the life expectancy of myeloma patients.
